Summary

It is an initiative in agriculture, designed to create indigenous seed banks along with manures to convert farmers to organic farming and empower them to sustain it.  We create an atmosphere for children to learn agriculture in school.

Challenge

The current farming system

Chemical fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides are widely used in agriculture to improve crop yields. Most of the compounds used are synthetic, and their overuse causes air, water and soil pollution and human health problems like cancer, nervous disorders and reproductive problems.

Year in and year out farmers are losing the seeds from their own plants, and are forced to purchase new seeds from seed providers. The GM seeds have now been patented and force the farmer to buy new seeds every planting season. It is illegal to save  GM seeds and these companies employ the “seed policy” to spy on farmers to make sure that they are toeing the line.

In fact, the availability of organic seeds is a major issue in organic farming, and most of the time the farmers are forced and advised to use conventional seeds only, as they could be treated with chemicals.

Solution

We believe unless we go back to organic farming and save the soil, there is no future.

We are encouraging farmers and individuals to conserve and promote India’s culturally diverse but endangered garden and food crop heritage for future generations by collecting, growing, and sharing heirloom seeds and plants.

We are planning to establish and create Seed banks where the farmers and other cultivators can get free seeds and also exchange their seeds. We are conducting awareness programs for all the people about indigenous seeds cultivated organically.

We are sourcing organic produce to processing plants for preservation and transformation into a variety of food & handmade products to be sold at fair prices by establishing online and offline stores and we are into research, development and selling organic farming aids at fair prices online and offline.

We are creating awareness among students in the schools and training the next generation in the field of agriculture and its advantages.
